Have you ever woken up and just felt like today something big was going to happen? You don't know what but you can just feel it. Something is up. Your body tingles and you can barely sit still, and your brain flashes with pictures. You jump at every little thing and your heart flutters and the drop of a pencil. Everything is different on those days, your uneasy and just don't know what is in store for you but you know within twenty four hours everything will be over and you will have to deal with whatever happens. Well that is how I feel today. Today Grace, Val, and the parents come home.
I'm glad actually. The house has been really lonely and having compny again will be nice. Although for the first week or two Valerie will be parading around the house flaunting her hard earned medals and pulling my arm so that I will sit and watch while she re-enacts how she won her medals.  Grace will be complaing on how I got to stay home by myself this time and she had to go and help with all of Val's medicine and carrying her things around. Then my parents will be grumpy with me after another hectic but successful dance competition for my down syndrome sister. But that is life at the Moore house. With Valerie every day is full of surprises and we handle them as best as we can, and we deal with it with our heads held high.

I glance at the clock and realize that I have a half hour until Jake comes to pick me up. I sigh and throw my bed cover over my bed so it appears to be "neat" to my parents in case they peak in. I throw  all my clothes and other crap into my closet and shut the door. "Where's Mimi," I murmer staring around for our bunny who was sitting on my bed a second ago. "Hmm." I throw back the covers to find her under there peeking out at me. "Mimi!" I cry out and pick her up. "Don't hide from me, you have to see Val when you get home. I know she's missed you!" I walk across the hall and gently lower her into the massive rabbit hutch slash "castle" that Mimi decorated for her in her room. "There." I close and secure the door  and skip out.

I run down the back stairs into our glossy, forest kitchen. I take out a tub of yogurt and plastic spoon. Just as I throw the lid away a horn sounds outside. "Oops!" I quickly run out into the hall and grab my large silver purse and slid on my comfy, cozy white mocassins on and threw a scarf around my neck and duck out the door.

    Excerpt One

         Grace

                 "
George! LOOK OUT FOR-" mom never finished her sentence. The car smashed feircely into something rock solid and everything screeched and Everything happened so fast. All I know is one second Jaimi is sitting beside me smiling, her tiny hand clutched in my big one, then she's flying towards the front of the car. I hold onto that little hand, fingers grasping fingers keeping my promise as my shoulder pops. Suddenly my head smashes into the window, glass falls and everything feels cold and wet for a second, then there was pain. And finally nothing.
